By Brian O’Connor – JCI Ireland CoC
Welcome to the JCI Ireland 2017 National Convention hosted by JCI Cork from October 13th – 15th 2017. This event is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate and showcase JCI Ireland’s achievements for the year among JCI members, friends, alumni, and senators from across Europe.
JCI Ireland has always strived to promote leadership and self-growth in its members. That is why this year’s convention theme will be “Aspire to Inspire”. This key theme will be reflected in the events and speakers that we have planned to host at the convention, which we hope will leave you inspired and aspiring for greatness!
With direct flights from Edinburgh and Glasgow, Cork is an ideal setting to host guest members of JCI from across Scotland. The Clayton Hotel Cork City is an incredibly modern setting. Located in the centre of Cork’s emerging commercial district, this is an exciting setting to host this year’s convention with peripheral views of key landmarks in Cork such as City Hall, The Customs’ Building, and One Albert Quay – Ireland’s smartest building.
Near enough to the convention’s location, there are many unique sights to behold in Cork City. Examples include St Finbarre’s Cathedral, the Bells of Shandon, and the English Market. The National Convention will be jam packed with activities and tours to give our delegates a memorable stay in the most perfect location.
JCI Cork has been an active chamber since 1957. Currently, JCI Cork has members from a wide variety of professional backgrounds, and a strong alumni network. 2017 is a special year for JCI Ireland as it will be marking it’s 60th birthday a mere stone’s throw from where it was founded, in Cork, in 1957. This convention will be the perfect way to celebrate JCI Ireland’s 60th year, with JCI chambers expressing their interest from all over Ireland, the UK, and Europe. This will be the second time in less than ten years that JCI Cork will be hosting JCI Ireland’s national convention.
At the picturesque and historic Port of Cork Customs’ Building, JCI members will have the opportunity to relax, network and unwind before the convention Gala dinner which will celebrate the wonderful work that JCI Ireland has done over the past sixty years.
The convention will be hosting key events such as the JCI Ireland Friendly Business Awards and the annual tri-partite debating competition between JCI UK, JCI Scotland and JCI Ireland.
The Keynote Speaker at the convention Gala Dinner will be Sinéad Kane, who became the first visually impaired athlete to complete seven marathons in seven days on seven continents. Sinéad’s was recognised as one of The Outstanding Young Person Award in April 2017 in Cork by JCI Cork and she went to be recognised by JCI Ireland as well.
